www.commsolutionsmn.com- Minnesota has 853 cities, but it has way more townships. Yet, the cities have so much more power over their neighboring townships. One such example is the power of annexation. Annexation is the process by which all, or a portion of, a township is added to the boundaries of an existing city and removed from the township. State Statute 414.033 gives the power to cities for annexation of adjoining townships. Sometimes the township wants to divest a certain portion of land, but usually it's the cities that take it over without any say so of the township. Townships have very little recourse in warding off a hostile annexation from a neighboring city. Groups like the Coalition of Greater MN Cities lobby for greater powers over annexation, groups like the Association of MN Townships are trying to limit them. We bring you stories from places like Princeton, Northfield, St. Joseph, Cambridge, Rice Lake Township, and Proctor.
We also take a little time to discuss the Hong Kong protests... and make reference to Alf?
