Community Solutions Podcast

Mar 7, 2018

www.commsolutionsmn.com-In this episode, Jason and Andrew introduce y'all to The American Planning Association (The APA). The APA is a 501(C)3 that is (frankly) quite partisan. It advises its members (found all around the world) on what are the best urban development trends to follow. The problem is, these trends are not suited for a particular community, but a one-size-fits-all solution to public planning. It's taking the "sub" out of "suburban", and is why you see bike lanes, roundabouts, complete streets, and the like in cities and towns of all shapes and sizes. Chances are good your city planner belongs to, or at least follows, the APA. If that's the case, guess what kind of solutions they bring to your community. If you don't have a strong city council that doesn't let the staff run the city, you will be subject to many of the ideas that the APA pushes. They have pull at the federal, state, and local levels of government. No independent group should have this kind of pull over elected officials. Come get yourself acquainted!
